Provincial Dental care Program (PDCP)
Bridging Overall Health and Wellness through Access to Dental Care
If you or your family earn a low income, you may be eligible to receive subsidized basic dental treatment services under the Provincial Dental Care Program. Even those with private insurance can apply. All applicants are considered based on financial need. Coverage is granted at a percentage of co-pay (meaning the program could cover 20, 40, 60, 80 or 100% of cost).
To be approved, you and the dependent members of your family must:
- Be residents of PEI
- Have an active PEI Health Card
- Meet the income eligibility criteria, or be in receipt of financial assistance from the Department of Social Development and Housing;
- Submit an application
If approved, the person may seek dental hygiene services at a participating dental or dental hygiene office in PEI.
- The program covers a percentage of the fee based on the recipient’s income
- Take your card with you to the office you are attending
- The dental hygienist will explain what preventive services the participant requires after an assessment
- The dental hygienist will be able to perform the preventive services of 3 time units of scaling and 1 time unit of polishing once a year. Time units can be divided in half to allow for more than one visit per year
- Fluoride applications have an age limitation - limited to once a year for participants under 18 or above 54 years of age
- Pit and Fissure Sealants are limited to participants under the age of 18
